“Reinvention” is one of the style world’s most common themes. Every year, month and minute, we chase what’s new, often swinging between extremes when it comes to the trends and tastemakers that define how we dress, live and travel. This fall, that seasonal revamp feels more consequential. In fashion especially, newly installed designers (Matthieu Blazy at Chanel; Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez at Loewe; Jonathan Anderson at Dior) will unveil their visions for some of the world’s biggest houses. Their perspectives won’t only be weighed against history and social media buzz, but all the geopolitics and pop culture chatter that influence how we shop and think about style now.
It felt like a good moment to refine our own quarterly lens on fashion, beauty, design, travel, art and culture, too. The September issue of The Globe and Mail Style Magazine builds on over a decade of editing down the best of style into our audience’s guide to living well. Our cover feature on Erdem Moralioglu, the Montreal-born designer marking 20 years at the top of British fashion, and the annual Canada’s Best Dressed List, which celebrates the sartorial skills of those who work behind the camera defining Canadian style, bring our appreciation for creative leaders to the forefront. The Essentials section now includes writer Bernadette Morra’s take on fine jewellery, an area of ever-increasing interest for designer brands and their clientele. A new travel section, Beyond, will help guide you to destinations worthy of your bucket list. And in between print editions, online at tgam.ca/stylemag, you’ll find an ever more robust lineup of digital stories, edited by The Globe’s new senior style editor, Haley Steinberg.
What hasn’t changed is how we define luxury, including a focus on craft and experiences that develop a deeper appreciation for the best of the best. I often say that we want this magazine to help our audience feel confident in the choices they’re making as consumers, travellers and all-around epicureans, and I’m grateful that we continue to inspire them each season.
